As always, stay healthy and happy and ENJOY THE HOLIDAY SEASON! For those of you who have seen Dr. Brenda Yee lately, you're in the know that she's expecting twins! She will begin her Maternity Leave on Jan 1, 2022 until Mar 31, 2022 to enjoy her little bundles of joy. She will be returning to practice on Apr 1, 2022 (no it is not an April Fool's joke!). During Dr. Yee's time away, we've had the privilege to meet Dr. Aislinn Rooney who will be continuing care for chiropractic patients. With a warm and friendly personality and very similar treatment style to Dr. Brenda Yee, we could not have been more blessed to have Dr. Aislinn Rooney join the team! We warmly welcome her! Check out her bio below or on our "About" page! Dr. Aislinn Rooney’s passion derives from a life-long love of sports, particularly “her sport” - competitive rowing. As is usual with most sports, Dr. Aislinn suffered several injuries and even required surgery. As part of her recovery plan, she was introduced to chiropractic care. During her downtime, she began coaching at several rowing club programs in her hometown of Hamilton, Ontario. Dr. Aislinn’s experience in sports and interest in volunteering led her to earn a BA in Kinesiology from Western University in London, Ontario, before becoming a Doctor of Chiropractic at New York Chiropractic College, graduating as a member of the Phi Chi Omega Chiropractic Honor Society.
Dr. Aislinn is passionate about her work as a Chiropractor – not only treating the spine, but also the extremities with a special interest in myofascial and referred pain. She enjoys working with individuals and families of all ages. She utilizes a variety of treatment techniques, tailoring treatment to each individual and their goals – these include Diversified and Gonstead adjusting, gentle mobilizations, trigger point and myofascial release, cupping, kinesiotaping, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization, home exercise instruction, and nutritional and lifestyle recommendations. An avid hiker alongside her Swiss Mountain Dog, Gus, Dr. Aislinn also enjoys going to the gym, spending time with family, and exploring what her city has to offer. Exciting news! We're thrilled to welcome Meaghan Osmond, RMT at Nurture Family Chiropractic beginning January 1, 2022! Allowing time for activity and movement is incredibly important in keeping a healthier lifestyle as it allows you to reduce muscle tension and helps with stress relief. Ever heard of Bruegger's Stretch? It's an excellent stretch that reverses all the postures you're holding while sitting and working from your desk all day which can help relieve tight and achy neck, midback and shoulder muscles. Let's break it down. When you're sitting at your desk, chances are your back is hunched, your shoulders are rolled forwards and your neck and hanging out way too far in front of the rest of your body. What are these postures in anatomical terms? Check this out below:
-Hunched back: flexed thoracic spine -Forward rolled shoulders: flexed shoulders and pronated forearms -Neck hanging out too far in front of your body: neck protraction Bruegger's Stretch works to do the OPPOSITE of these postures which will give the muscles in your neck, midback and shoulders a break and also some movement (and we know that muscles love to move!). This movement will help reduce any tightness, aching or pain you may be experiencing from sitting at your desk job too long. Bruegger's Stretch will work to have: -Extended thoracic spine -Extended shoulders and supinated forearms -Neck Retraction Remember, motion is lotion! No posture is inherently bad in itself, but rather staying in one posture for too long is where you'll start running into trouble with tightness, soreness and aching in your body. The more intentional movement you can bring through your body, the less sore you'll be and who doesn't love feeling good? Give this stretch a try and we'd love to hear your feedback about it!
